We have some good news for WWE fans now, as we have just had confirmation from Take-Two on the release date for upcoming WWE game, WWE 2K14. As most of you will be aware, Take-Two and 2K Games is now in charge of publishing duties, following the financial troubles involving THQ. A recent earnings call has revealed that the game will be out this October.
However, only PS3 and Xbox 360 has been mentioned at the moment as platforms for the game. That means that we may not see a next-gen console release, similar to the Gran Turismo 6 situation, and perhaps more worryingly – no mention of a release on Nintendo’s Wii U console yet either.
For current Xbox 360 and PS3 owners though, you’ll be pleased to hear that the game has already been given a solid release date of October 29. Specific details on the game are unknown yet, but with an October release now confirmed, we can expect to hear further details and even some first gameplay at E3 2013 in June.
Yukes will still continue to develop the game if you didn’t already know, while it has already been confirmed that The Rock will feature as the main cover star of WWE 2K14 – that sure was announced pretty early. This may raise one or two eyebrows, since he has hardly been on WWE programming since his title loss at Wrestlemania to John Cena.
With the game now undergoing a brand change from WWE ’14’ to WWE 2K14, should we be seeing next-gen versions for the first game from 2K Games to continue with the transition? It would be fairly disappointing if we just see the game on PS3 and Xbox 360, with no other platforms.
It is early days still though of course, so give us your initial thoughts on the change to 2K14 and the decision to put The Rock on the cover.
