We have some good news for those of you with a MacBook Air or other Mac computer now, as EA has finally announced a release date for when Sim City will be available. It is even better for those who plan to share the game around the house and have already picked up the game on PC. If you are one of these people – you’ll be able to pick up Sim City for absolutely nothing.
The game suffered from well documented problems involving server issues as most of you are probably well aware, but thankfully the situation has improved ten fold and EA can now go about their business on updating the game with new functionality and title updates.
For those of you who have been waiting for a Mac version, it looks like you are going to get the best deal available, with a game that should be problem free upon launch. EA has confirmed that Sim City Mac will be going live on June 11, and that it will be a free deal if you already own a PC copy.
Even better, if you pick up the Mac version, you’ll get the PC version for free as well so it really is great if you plan on sharing the game with your family around the house. For those buying the game for the first time, you’ll be able to pre-order the Mac version right now on Origin.
This will be a downloadable version and will support cross-play with the PC version. That means that players on the two versions can play on the same servers together, and build property right into the sunset. The minimum specs are very reasonable as well – you’ll just need a Core 2 processor and be running on Mac OSX 10.7.5 Lion as bare minimums.
Let us know if you have the PC version already and if you have your Mac computer at the ready waiting for your free copy. Any of you planning to buy this on Mac, to get a free PC version instead?
