Dark Souls 2 gameplay highlights minimal change

By Updated on

This is the moment that Dark Souls fans have been waiting for, for months. Namco Bandai has just unveiled Dark Souls 2 footage to the world and we now have the first actual gameplay footage to show you, giving you a 12 minute demonstration of what’s new and how the game looks compared to the fantastic original.

In the case of Dark Souls 2 though, perhaps we should be saying – what hasn’t changed. Judging by the first footage, it looks like Namco Bandai hasn’t made any drastic changes at all and have stuck to the exact formula that made the first game such a success.

Fans may wonder at first why the sequel doesn’t appear to be any different to Dark Souls, but ultimately we think it is a move for the better. After all, why mix up the formula drastically if it isn’t broken? That is the key thought process from Namco Bandai and you’ll see what we mean by watching the footage for yourself, courtesy of IGN.

The graphics definitely look like they have been changed for the better though, with the questionable and arguably ‘lazy’ graphics from the first, replaced by something which looks close to next-gen quality. Dark Souls wasn’t about the graphics though and hopefully the stunning gameplay mechanics have been kept in tact for Dark Souls 2 as well.

From what we see, the main control scheme from the first game is untouched as well, which fans will obviously appreciate. We can tell you though that Namco Bandai has already confirmed that Dark Souls 2 will be twice as big as the first game, so there should be plenty of content to keep everyone busy this time around, for those that were complaining.

There’s not much else to say – watch the fantastic 12 minutes of gameplay above and let us know what you think about it. Is Dark Souls 2 a day one purchase for you on PC, Xbox 360 or PS3? It’s out later this year.
