Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate war on PS Vita, 3DS

It turns out that the rumors on Batman Arkham Origins were true after all. Rocksteady and Warner Bros have just announced the game on Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC for a release on October 25 this year. That’s not all though, as we can also confirm that a spin-off game called Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate is also on the way to the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita. How fantastic is that?

We were wondering when the Batman Arkham series would finally make the journey to handheld systems and now we can finally look forward to it happening on the exact day as the Batman Arkham Origins release. Rocksteady won’t be developing Blackgate though, as they would obviously be too busy focusing on the main game.

Instead, they have handed responsibility over to Armature Studio, who you may be familiar with from the very successful Metroid Prime game on the Nintendo GameCube. For those that are not aware, Armature Studios are formed from three of the main leads that worked on the Metroid Trilogy series of games, then as part of Retro Studios.

Batman Arkham Origins and Origins Blackgate have both been unveiled as part of the next cover of gaming magazine Game Informer. Thanks to an early issue, we can already bring you several key details on the game. Firstly, it is going to be a 2.5D-based platform game, and will take place directly after the events of Batman Arkham Origins.

That means that the story is going to continue on from the main console and PC game, and will take place at the Blackgate Penitentiary on an isolated island. What you see above is one of the first screenshots of the game, showing the Metroid-style platform format, mixed in with Batman’s traditional use of weapons and gadgets to stealthily remove any threats.

A new Batman Origins game is obviously fantastic news, but even better that the story is going to continue on PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS. Which platform of the game will you buy? The PS Vita version for the better visuals thanks to the OLED screen, or the 3DS version for potential 3D elements? Stay tuned for much more details soon.
