PS Vita update tease with Folder features

How are PS Vita users feeling at the moment? Is the mood a lot more positive over optimism of fresh games on the way this year, or are you still a bit disappointed overall? This week, we have an exciting tease to bring you, over the possibility of PS Vita Folders finally arriving with a future firmware update.

Before the end of 2013, the PS Vita game situation should be a lot more positive, with games such as Soul Sacrifice, Killzone Mercenary, Phantasy Star Online 2 and Final Fantasy X HD all scheduled to land. Phantasy Star Online 2 may be subject to change though following a recent delay, but otherwise it is looking very good on the whole after an extended period of drought.

As most of you are aware, the PS Vita user interface only has space for 10 pages of applications, so once you have used that you’ll have to delete apps to make way for more. As you can imagine, this isn’t an ideal situation and a long request from users is to allow the PS Vita system to create Folders, so that users can organize apps together and keep their menus looking fresh at all times.

This is obviously a very basic feature, but for some reason it hasn’t arrived on the PS Vita yet. Hopefully the wait won’t be long though, as Sony has provided the slightest hint that it could be coming with a future system update – may even firmware 2.07. Over on the official PS Blog, a user asked SCEE Blog Manager Fred Dutton on a status update for PS Vita folders.

When asked directly on when a firmware update was coming with these features, Dutton replied that they ‘may have some very good news for you very soon’ – which is very encouraging. While it is not a direct confirmation, it’s nice to know that Sony are aware that this feature needs to come sooner rather than later.

Are you a regular PS Vita gamer? Let us know if you have already used your 10 page app allocation and whether you are desperate for Folders functionality to arrive soon.

I love my Vita, though it doesn’t get as much use these days. I still have a very positive outlook on the platform, and the thought of Phantasy Star Online 2 coming “soon” keeps me smiling. I also read an article the other day that Minecraft would be considered for the platform once the exclusivity deal with MS runs out…that would be a dream come true as Minecraft Pocket on mobile is severely lacking in features…and thumbsticks!
