From what we can make out when the 2014 Corvette Stingray goes on sale in the summer there will be a huge demand for these vehicles, and so Chevy has felt the need to introduce what looks to us as a shortage prevention measure. The C7 Corvette will be limited to just 1 in 3 Chevrolet dealers.
There are 3,000 Chevy dealers in total, yet only 900 will be able to sell the new 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray, this includes the coupe and the convertible. They believe by doing this they will help prevent a shortage, as they expect sales to be very high.
While you and I would see this as a stupid way to try and help improve sales of the new C7, Automotive News has learned from Chevrolet that those 900 dealers accounted for 80 percent of Corvette sales last year. If this is true, then this could be a bold yet necessary move.
In order to be one of those dealers able to sell the 2014 Stingray, you would have had to sell four Corvettes in 2012, as well as having a Stingray specialist on hand. Not all dealers will have one of these specialists, as it costs $2,000 to put them through training. While this seems a lot, we bet many dealers wish they had put one of their salespeople through the training so they would have been able to sell the C7 this summer?
Thankfully these restrictions will only last during the first six to nine months, as that is when demand is expected to be high. We wonder how much demand there will be for the Shooting Brake version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, which to us looks very similar to the Ferrari FF?
