Earlier today we reported that Canon released details of the PowerShot SX280 HS along with several other cameras, and one of those models is the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, which is the worlds lightest and smallest DSLR. However, it has all the standard features you would expect to see from a DSLR, and you’ll see in the video below just how easy it is to hold in one hand. If you were hoping that Canon would announce the 70D, then you’ll be felling rather disappointed considering how well the Nikon D7100 has been doing since its release a week ago.
This is Canon’s way of innovating, but consumers could feel becasue of the smaller body some of the functions will have to be moved to the menu control rather than being able to access them easily with dedicated buttons. However, we’re sure most consumers will overlook this minor detail just so they can have the lightest digital SLR on the market.

The EOS Rebel SL1 packs an 18-megapixel sensor along with a DIGIC 5 Image Processor to offer high performance and outstanding speed and image quality, which are some of the main things we look for in a DSLR camera. The question is, are you convinced Canon has gone in the right direction with this camera?
We say this because some corners have had to be made, such as a fixed LCD view screen compared to many other DSLR models now offering a swivel variant. Don’t let the minor details put you off though, because Canon could be onto a winner, and offering the new EF-S 18-55mm STM lens as part of a kit could be a great incentive for you to consider getting one.
The price of the EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR will be $649.99 for the body or $799.99 complete with the lens mentioned above. We expect this new Canon camera to be released in April. Visit Canon for all the features and specs.
