iPad wireless charging solution at a price

Over the years we have listened to Apple say things and then do a complete 360, one example of this is when Phil Schiller said that they were not interested in wireless technology. However, he meant that Apple were not interested in making another device in order for you to plug into the wall, a little like the third-party Magic Mouse charger.

As always many people just read between the lines and believe that Apple backtracks, when more often than not there was far more to it. We say this because there was a patent filed back in 2011 that could see an iPad wireless charging solution by way of a new Smart Cover.

In the filing it shows that the new Smart Cover would have an “inductive power transmitter” that can get its power wirelessly as well, which would make it a truly wireless device. In the drawings seen on Apple Insider you will see that charging would only begin once you place the cover over the screen.

We are sure that the Apple haters would have already said that this is a rip off several other devices, but this will serve the purpose of an Apple product. However, what makes this wireless Smart Cover charger different is how you use the lighting cable to attach the cover to the iPad in order to charge the tablet.

The cover would essentially be a battery extender but without the bulk, and while some people believe that Apple should build inductive charging into their devices; this is one solution to keep the bulk down. This is not the final solution we would like to see and we are sure the price will be a little expensive, along with another way for Apple to generate more income from an accessory, although for now it is a pretty decent solution.
