If Microsoft were hoping that consumer and business users were going to embrace the all-in-one PC, then that gamble seems to be paying off. Okay, so we know that they have a long way to go, but having a desktop that thinks it’s a tablet is proof that the likes of Dell and Sony are thinking out of the box.

The latest of these devices is the Dell XPS 18, which is to hit the market next month. As you would expect this all-in-one has had a mixed reaction since being announced, but several Dell XPS 18 reviews believes that there is potential with a few minor tweaks here and there.

Dell’s goal with the XPS 18 hybrid is to out perform the Sony VAIO Tap 20, which we discussed while looking at some of the best Windows 8 all-in-one PCs. However, looking over the specs Dell has a good chance of doing so.

We’ve read several reviews now and there seems to be a pattern emerging, and that is the Dell XPS 18 has the foundations for something great, but there are several areas needing improvements. One thing that goes against the device is the fact that it still needs a keyboard and mouse to work, which is a shame.

Navigating on such a huge tablet like device would be easy and enjoyable, although some people feel that a physical keyboard and mouse is still essential. Having a stylus would be very welcome because it would help improve various applications.

It’s nice to see the likes of Dell trying by offering us the best of both worlds, but if they are serious with this product then the next version needs to have a far better display. However, some readers have said that if the Surface Pro were bigger then they would rather go for that, but would you?
