If there were any doubts as to whether or not Battlefield 4 would end up being a next-gen title, EA has recently decided to send out the message that Battlefield 4 is a game that is firmly in development on next-generation hardware. We recently told you how some GameStop execs had the chance to see early footage of the game in action, and now it looks like the footage they saw was a game that is destined to come out on the likes of the Sony PS4 and Xbox 720.
At the moment, the only official information we have on the game is that it is due to be released at sometime in 2014 and the fact that a beta has already been confirmed, with initial access reserved for those that picked up a copy of Medal of Honor Warfighter. Now it seems that EA are slowly starting to ease up on the BF4-related info, with company president Frank Gibeau revealing that Battlefield 4 is now destined for next-gen hardware to calm any doubts that fans may have had.
As confirmed on the official EA Blog, Gibeaa has referred to their next-generation software as ‘astonishing’, mentioning again that GameStop execs were given the opportunity to see Battlefield 4 early. His whole statement was about transitioning into the next-generation and added that they are really excited about what is coming next.
E3 2013 now seems to be the perfect platform for EA to properly show Battlefield 4 to the world and hopefully we’ll see some actual gameplay of BF4 running on either the PS4, or the next Xbox – with many developers preferring to show off PC footage the first time around.
One big talking point though, is what will happen to the current generation of consoles in relation to Battlefield 4. Will EA and DICE adopt a similar approach to Ubisoft and Watch Dogs, by releasing on next-gen consoles, as well as the current home consoles today? Diablo 3 is another recently announced game that has already been confirmed for both PS4 and PS3.
Battlefield 3 is still a great game though online, so it is going to be very exciting to see how they can improve on it even further on all new hardware. Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming game and whether you think BF4 will also release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.
