Those rumors regarding the 2013 MacBook Air look as though they were on the money, as they seem to have been verified once again by those who are close to Taiwanese suppliers. Okay, so we know that we have to take such rumors with a grain of salt, but the thought that both the 11 and 13-inch Air will sport a Retina display is a huge deal for some of us.
The reason we say this is because if Apple were to go with the new Retina display, as the rumor predicts, then the MacBook Air 2013 refresh will also be a little lighter as well. We’re told that Quanta is expected to begin shipments of MacBook Air components in Q2, with a plan to release the new models in Q3.
If we are to believe that the 2013 MacBook Air will become available in Q3 then we expect a release date sometime in July. We say this because the last refresh was back in June 2012, so surely Apple would not want to go over too far past the previous cycle. It’s obvious that Apple would not want to choose September to release the new Air, as that should be the month when the next iPhone will be released, so they will not want to share the limelight with these other products.
We expect other specs to get a small bump as well, such as the new Haswell processors from Intel. However, Apple will need to adapt their batteries because the new processors, Retina display and thinner form factor will all drain the battery used in the current Air.
If you had your way what updates would you like to see on the new MacBook Air refresh?
