As with all of Apple’s iOS devices they receive an update each year, although more often than not they are only minor updates. However, when you consider that the iPad mini 2 could see its display improved to Retina, then this is just one feature that could have an adverse affect on its price.
We say this because there is a fear that the iPad Mini 2nd generation price could rise by at least 30 percent. If the smaller iPad was to only see the introduction of a Retina display, then it’s reported that production cost would be around $12 more. Now if this were true then Apple could go two ways, pass on some of the cost or reduce their profit for each unit they sell.
However, because the new version of the smaller iPad could come with a Retina display, then other features will need to be upgraded in order to accommodate it, and this is expected to further increase the price by up to 30 percent. If this is the case then Apple will have a dilemma on their hands, as they don’t want to price themselves out of the market.
The problem is Apple has already begun to lose their share of the tablet market, and being forced to increase the 2013 iPad mini price is something they will not wish to do. If we are to believe the rumors then Apple might release the iPad 5 with a look that will not be dissimilar to the next mini tablet, but will this be enough to get them back at the top?
We have no idea when the release date for the new iPad mini will be, but we can be sure that ASUS will have a new Nexus 7 by then, along with a multitude of other smaller Android tablets as well.
