GTA V transition into Xbox 720, PS4 fears

By Updated on

It is fair to say that GTA V remains the most anticipated game of 2013, despite the fact that it has now been delayed six months from its original scheduled release in Spring, to September 17 instead. The game has only been confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but one potential fear that is beginning to creep in, is whether GTA V will be playable on next-gen consoles or not.

On February 20, Sony are strongly tipped to be unveiling their new PlayStation 4 console to the world, while Microsoft will likely do the same thing at E3 2013 in June, or at a separate event just before. You won’t need us to remind you, but there are also numerous reports suggesting that both next-gen consoles will NOT have the backwards compatibility support, meaning that old PS3 and old Xbox 360 discs will not work.

If that is really the case, then what on earth is going to happen when GTA V releases in September, the whole world buys the game and then finds out in December that their disc won’t work on the new respective consoles from Sony or Microsoft? It is a question that we’re sure a lot of you are asking as well, although surely we won’t get to a ridiculous situation where GTA V simply won’t work.

Has Rockstar purposefully delayed the game because they know both consoles will be out before September 17? But then you have to wonder why Rockstar has confirmed the game for Xbox 360 and PS3, not next-gen consoles. You can imagine the uproar if consumers find that GTA V isn’t playable on the new consoles, and it could even have a negative effect on new next-gen hardware sales for Sony and Microsoft, if consumers decide that they want to stay on current gen until they are completely finished and satisfied with GTA V.

Nothing is certain about next-gen specs yet, but it is slightly worrying hearing frequent rumors every single week that both won’t play old discs or used games. Let us know if you have been thinking about this situation as well, and what you plan to do if you really can’t put your GTA V disc into your Xbox ’720′ or Sony PS4.

There are so many good games coming out his year. I doubt Sony and M$ are gonna release new consoles this year.

I say, sir, in the most gentle way, you are a moron. the console makers are eager to get their new systems out. I will remind you that the ps2 sold very well into 2008. the ps3 came out in 2005. That wont change this year.

Or plug in both consoles. Do you really get rid of your previous console and it’s entire library every time a new generation comes out?

Honestly, if that was the case that GTA V wasn’t on next gen I would still buy into the next gen. I’m not going to hold my experiences of a next generation of console gaming for just one game. Besides, I don’t know many people who immediately sell/retire old consoles when new ones come out. If it came down to me buying the next console and not playing GTA V or sticking with the old one to play it, I would skip GTA V. Maybe Rockstar are the ones that should be worrying. Not us.

What’s the point of this article? You can buy the new console but play GTA V on your old one like you used to: I don’t understand what the problem is. If you are afraid that you can’t watch pixels on the screen react to your fingers on a piece of plastic, then you require a short break from gaming.

On topic though, I’m not going to buy the new console until a few years of it being released. All the initial games that come out for a gaming console is usually experimental.

This was six months ago but I just have to say that I think what people are afraid of is wasting money on the game they don’t want the current gen version of when they can get better graphics on the next GEN version

  • http://www.facebook.com/brandon.silk.92 Brandon Silk

Rockstar would release it on next gen because 1. More sales 2. More money 3. Bit close and stupid of them not to release it. Myy opinion anyway

It’s pretty simple. Buy the sodding game, play it on you PS3/Xbox 360. Then buy the new console and play new games. Maybe they’ll then release the PS4/Xbox720 version of the game after then and you can trade in your old copy for the new one if you have the money to waste.

I guess having a ton of money makes every decision really simple, huh?
