Final Fantasy Versus XIII reimagined for Sony PS4 in 2014

Are you wondering what on earth has happened to the infamous Final Fantasy Versus XIII game from Square-Enix? We have heard no details on the elusive title from the developer for months now, but new rumors are suggesting that this could be due to one exciting fact. Final Fantasy Versus XIII may now be releasing as a next-gen PS4 title instead and could come with an entirely different name as well upon release.

Square-Enix has always maintained that the Versus XIII project hasn’t been cancelled and it would make sense if all of the silence is solely due to the fact that they have been developing on next-generation hardware all of this time. The rumors surface from Neogaf, specifically from one user who claims that Versus XIII could now turn out to be Final Fantasy 15 and that it could be announced as an exclusive for the Sony PS4, just like Versus was intended exclusively for the PS3.

The source also states that the game will ‘definitely’ be released in 2014 and that he will ‘delete’ his Neogaf account if the information turns out to be false. Square-Enix has already commented on the story by saying that ‘they don’t comment on rumor and speculation’ – taking a page out of Sony’s book in the process.

We would love it if this turned out to be true though, as it does now seem a little pointless to bring out a new Final Fantasy game on PS3 with next-gen consoles supposedly on the way at the end of the year. Don’t forget that Square-Enix is already bringing out Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, so a big next-gen FFXV game should definitely be on the cards next.

What do you make of these surprise rumors? Do you think they will turn out to be true as it appears that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is currently in no mans land? Final Fantasy 15 as a Sony PS4 exclusive would send shockwaves throughout the industry, we just hope that Square-Enix can commit to a definitive release schedule this time.
