Many excited consumers were expecting the Evasi0n iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 to release this Sunday during the 2013 Superbowl. Unfortunately, it appears that the Evad3rs team need a little more time as we can now confirm that the software will be released on Monday instead. Although no set release time has been confirmed, there appears to be a hidden countdown in place providing a set time for when the download will be live.
While some of you may have enjoyed a new Iron Man 3 trailer and Beyonce’s performance at the Superbowl, the untethered jailbreak was a highlight for many of you and it’s a bit disappointing that the download is still not out. However, if you head to the Evad3rs website, you’ll see that the progress bar is still ongoing and a Tweet by the newly-formed jailbreak team confirms that the untethered jailbreak will now release on Monday for everyone.

On the website, there isn’t an exact time, but some code discovered on Twitter and noted by RedmondPie reveals that the progress bar is moving up slowly automatically, by 0.0045% every 30 seconds to be exact. This means that if it continues through the night, the iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak will be officially released at 9am Pacific Time or 12pm Eastern Time.
It’s a nice little teaser by the jailbreak team and it gives those of you who are looking for the download something to get excited about. When the jailbreak is finally live, details on the website suggest that the process will be a straightforward one and will only take around 5 minutes to install.
Additional notes also confirm that you’ll need to connect your iOS device to a computer with USB cable and you are also advised to disable any pass lock you may have in place, as it may cause issues with the download – apparently. Opening up iTunes during the installation is also a big no and users should always backup devices before starting the download.
So there we have it – the jailbreak is out in a matter of hours. It’s been a long time waiting, but will you be installing this the moment the download is live?
