We’ve known that the Google X phone is more than certain to release this year, but what we do not know is who will produce the new Android handset. However, we recently reported that the Motorola X could be their flagship smartphone for 2013, and if true then what can we expect because it will need to be something pretty special?
The Google X phone durability has been a topic of conversation of late, but this is just one of a handful of rumors that seems to be gaining traction. As you would imagine Google is keeping the specific features of the X phone a closely guarded secret (getting more like Apple each day) but we do know that they will be a huge step from what we have seen from Motorola in the past – well it’s pretty obvious that it will be them producing the new stock Android handset.
According to one of the more recent rumors the Google X phone will be much tougher, which could be thanks to a flexible display, which we discussed in detail a couple of weeks back. Going with a flexible display would make the handset far less fragile than current smartphones on the market. If this were the case then there would not be a reason to hide what is expected to be a beautifully designed handset in a not so appealing case or cover.
There have been suggestions that the Google X phone could offer gesture recognition capabilities and the battery would have a longer life, and while this may be true we can’t help wonder why battery technology has remained stagnant when compared to other hardware that resides inside these smartphones? Another rumor is that the Google X phone could be followed by a tablet, which does make sense but these devices will need to be something special if they have any hope of competing with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 2 and the new iPhone (whatever it will be called).
