If you are looking for a new tablet and want to save a bit of money, you only need to look no further than what the Chinese electronics market continues to pump out on a daily basis. Google’s Nexus 7 tablet is arguably the best on the market right now and it’s no surprise to see that there are many Chinese equivalents available for a fraction of the price.
One such tablet that fits this category is the Ainol Novo 7 Venus, which features the same 1280×800 hi-resolution display as the Google Nexus 7. While we get our heads around the name of the device, the key differentiator between the two is the fact that the Novo 7 Venus doesn’t ship with the same Tegra 3 quad-core processor that is equipped on the Nexus 7.
Instead there’s a 1.5GHz Quad Core Atm7029 processor, which we’re guessing isn’t up to the same high quality as NVIDIA’s chip. This ultimately brings down the price of the tablet, to $140 compared to Google’s already reasonable price of $199 for the Nexus 7. Aside from the processor change, there are still some very decent specs to be found on the Chinese counterpart.
It still ships with Android Jelly Bean, there’s 1GB of RAM, a quad-core graphics chip, 16GB of onboard storage and a rear 2MP camera accompanied by a 0.3 megapixel front-camera. Then again, it is only $50 difference we are talking about so if you did really opt for one of these, you may live to regret it if it suddenly won’t turn on in a few months time.
It is nice to see though that the Chinese ‘knock offs’ appear to be getting better in terms of spec comparisons. It still looks like a very capable device for $140 and if you really want to try your luck with one, you can find it on Ainol-Novo’s website here. They could have thought about a better name though than the ’7 Venus’. Let us know what you think of this latest product from China – getting better right?
