We have a big surprise for Pokemon fans now even for those of you who don’t really want to admit that you still harbor close feelings towards Nintendo’s lovable little pocket creatures. If you were previously unimpressed with Pokemon Black and White on the 3DS, you’ll be interested to know that a new secret Pokemon project is on the way and it could be announced very soon as Pokemon Rainbow. As the name suggests, the new title is rumored to be an amalgamation of previous Pokemon games in the franchise, including two old favorites on the Gameboy – Pokemon Red and Blue.
We have fond memories of exchanging Pokemon on the Red and Blue Gameboy versions using the ancient link cables – that is going back almost 15 years now which is pretty staggering. Now those two classic games may be returning to the forefront once again, allowing the new generation of Pokemon trainers to experience that game as part of Pokemon Rainbow.
The game hasn’t been announced yet, but there are strong rumors as well as early information suggesting that an announcement will be happening later on this week. Pokemon Rainbow is thought to be a combination of the previous four generation of Pokemon games – that means Red and Blue, Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire and finally Diamond and Pearl. An article published by IGN indicates that all Pokemon featured in these games will be returning for Pokemon Rainbow, while the environments that made these games so popular are going to be remade to be in line with today’s graphical standards on the Nintendo 3DS.
There’s also a further treat in store for 3DS owners with a Nintendo Wii U as well. Information has also been revealed, suggesting that a supporting Pokemon Rainbow application will be available for download on the Wii U, which we’re guessing will act as some kind of Pokedex style database when players want to check out their vast collections on a big screen.
You’ll probably also want to know that there’s a reported 20 new Pokemon who will join the roster in Rainbow as well – so this really is looking like a massive game for fans if confirmed to be true. As we wait for Nintendo to confirm the exciting new game, let us know your initial reaction to a Pokemon Rainbow game that combines four generations of Pokemon games into one massive title.
It could end up being the best Pokemon game to date. Are you looking forward to grabbing Mew and Mewtwo again?
UPDATE: Well, it looks like IGN’s sources were telling porky pies. There’s no Pokemon Rainbow in actual fact – not just yet anyway. Nintendo has announced Pokemon X and Pokemon Y instead and we’ve included the announcement trailer below. It’s an all new 3D adventure and it still looks very nice. More to come soon.
