When Ford decided to call it a day with the Ford GT back in 2006 there was a collective cry, as the car had such an iconic past. However, for those who ever wondered what the car would have looked like today then you’ll be pleased to know that Galpin Auto Sports is building the GTR-1 supercar, which they say is based on the modern version of the Ford GT.
We’d like to point out that the GTR-1 is still in its concept stage as GAS only gave the vehicle a mention during the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, so just maybe the GTR-1 concept could be on show at future auto shows. It would be nice to see it make an appearance during one or two 2013 cars shows, but as we have no idea how far the company are with the project we can only hope and surmise.
GAS explains that the GTR-1 sports car will be unveiled with a gas guzzling 1,000 horsepower engine, but failed to give us any other figures. However, we’re sure that the GTR-1 specs will be right up their with the Bugatti Veyron, so no doubt when the car is finally produced we’ll see a ton of GTR-1 vs. Bugatti Veyron videos appear on YouTube, which is something I’d love to see.
The 2005-2006 Ford GT was a sexy looking car, depending who you ask, but there’s no denying that the car was not without its issues, something made perfectly clear by Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson. Not only did he have several issues with the start button, but also the alarm and immobilizer system as well. However, we’re sure that Galpin Auto Sports will resolve those issues along with many of the others as well.
It’s almost certain that the GTR-1 will have upgraded brakes, suspension and also a better chassis to help keep the car planted to the grey stuff because of that extra power from the engine. If that wasn’t enough this modern version of the Ford GT sports car will have an interior that will be custom built for each owner, much like what McLaren do with their MP4-12C. There will be car lovers whom are all for such a concept, but there will be far more who will hate that such an iconic car is being messed around with yet again, which camp are you in?
