PS Vita unusual techniques to sell

By Updated on

The gaming industry has been guilty of using sexual materials in the past to promote games. We see it all the time with Japanese based games such as Dead or Alive, but now a magazine in France has published a naughty ad in order to bump in interest in Sony’s PS Vita console.

It’s fair to say that Sony still has an awful lot of work to do if they are going to convince new buyerss that the PS Vita handheld is worthy of its $249 price tag. There is still a lot of feeling in the air that there simply isn’t enough games for the system and it really hasn’t helped matters further, when it was revealed that the upcoming Black Ops: Declassified game doesn’t look too good.

The Tokyo Game Show is now a key event for company, as Sony will now put together a new package in the hope that gamers flock to the shops during Holiday season and pick up a Vita in time for Christmas. One advertising method that we didn’t expect to see though can be seen below, captured in a French magazine recently.

As you can see by the image, Sony has turned to sexual techniques to show a woman with no head and four breasts. The caption along with the picture reads: “Touch both sides. Twice the sensations.” – obviously a direct reference to the PS Vita rear touchpad with provides secondary touch controls along with the main touch display on the front.

Have you ever seen such a strange official ad from Sony? We doubt we’ll be seeing the same ad pop up in Sony UK and Sony US advertising, that’s for sure. Either way though, it caught our eye so maybe it is job done from Sony’s French division.

Back to the pressing matter at hand though, do you agree that Sony needs to put more effort in to promote the PS Vita more? How many adverts have you seen on television, promoting the upcoming game lineup? We haven’t seen too many since launch.

A promotional campaign featuring some top new games on line and at retailers. Looks a bit like they’ve given up or their attentions are focused elsewhere.

Such a cool ad. F**k the haters. Old school, in your face advertising like it’s meant to be done. Not the PC crap we have now. Props to Sony. More of the same please. Differentiating the Vita from the 3DS is the way to go.

The internet alone is enough advertising these days. One person talks about something on social media and it spreads like the plague. Before you know it you’ve got a sizable install base. People are much more tech savvy now. If they’re interested in videogames at all then they’ll know about the Vita. So no, I don’t think Sony should focus on televised marketing any more now than they planned to initially. Instead they should focus on making high quality, innovative IPs.

i personaly don’t like the backside touch at all. Enough is to have front screen touch capable. But there you have it.
