Don’t be surprised if friends and family start claiming the iPad mini has a release date, which is thanks to mainstream media highlighting the increase in rumors surrounding the new smaller iPad, and confusing consumers with the difference between fact and fiction. Yesterday we touched on an imminent launch of the 2012 iMac, which should also be joined by the iPad mini with a similar release window.
Today the rumor mill is churning out even more details on the iPad mini specs, which focus on the size at just under 8-inches, the inclusion of Apple’s new lighting connector, and a thinner bezel. These details arrive thanks to this source that claims iPad mini accessories are already boxed and waiting to be shipped to the consumer when Apple launch their new iPad.
Another sign would be boxes arriving at retail stores that are marked “not to open“, seen before many new product launches, and this is exactly what’s happening right now at Best Buy. We’ve heard that some stores have boxes with unknown contents, and employees have been told they’re not to open them until a certain date. The above source claims these boxes contain displays for accessories that will work with the new iPad mini hardware.
The iPhone 5 launched with hardly any cases and this had been thanks to Apple’s secret approach when it came to details on the new design, so we wouldn’t expect Apple to be sharing details on their new iPad mini, although this is apparently not the case according to Apple Insider. They state that accessory makers like Kensington and Belkin have already made cases for the iPad mini, which means they must have been hands-on with at least a prototype. There’s always the possibility that these case makers are guessing the final design, which could end up being costly if they get it wrong, although considering their approach with iPhone 5 accessories we find this unlikely.
Do you see room for an iPad mini in your gadget collection? Current rumors point to an Oct 23 event for the new iPad mini, and possibly other Apple products, although it’s worth pointing out this would not be the release date like some blogs are claiming. The device would start shipping shortly after the event, so keep connected to PR and we’ll keep you updated as we get more information.
