When Treyarch dropped their premiere multiplayer gameplay trailer for Black Ops 2, they confirmed one massive new feature for the game. Competitive matches via eSports will be supported in Black Ops 2 and now we have some more details on this, including some very good news for console players.

In a recent private event, Treyarch has confirmed that Black Ops 2 owners will be able to enter a live streaming mode in-game where they can sit back and enjoy some competitive multiplayer matches being played using leagues such as eSports. You would usually associate competitive shooter leagues with the PC only, but Treyarch has confirmed that live streaming will be able on console too.

It means that you should be able to tune into a PC match being played, while using a Xbox 360 or PS3 version of Black Ops 2. The quality of the streaming will depend on your internet connection Treyarch has said and won’t have an impact on any gameplay you participate in on your respective version.

We have often seen games such as Counter-Strike 1.6 dominate the eSports scene, but it will be interesting to see just how popular Black Ops 2 becomes when it enters into a competitive environment. We imagine that there will be a legion of players who deem themselves to be good enough for competitive play and it makes for some exciting action when Treyarch and Activision start setting up leagues with real cash prizes up for grabs.

Some people may feel like Call of Duty doesn’t belong in a competitive environment due to its ‘arcade’ style of gameplay, but we commend Treyarch for trying something fresh as Call of Duty is long overdue a revamp in our opinion. Do you think eSports will work for Black Ops 2? Let us know if you intend to watch competitive live streams on a regular basis.

i think it will definately work as long as everybody gets an opportunity to take part, if its only available to “pro” gamers then i doubt it will
