If you still happen to have the Verizon 4G LTE version of the aging Motorola Xoom, some very good news may be about to come your way soon. After only just receiving an update to Ice Cream Sandwich a few months ago, we’re now hearing whispers that an update to the latest version, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean may be coming as well.
This is quite surprising for a number of reasons. The first being that it has only been a few months after the Verizon Xoom received Ice Cream Sandwich as mentioned above. The second is that Verizon are obviously notorious for taking their time in providing official software updates, and often release them at a staggered rate compared to ‘pure’ Google devices.
The non 4G LTE Motorola Xoom has already been confirmed to be getting an update to Jelly Bean of course, but are Verizon due to make a surprise update available for all 4G LTE owners as well? A report over at Droid-Life has suggested that one lucky 4G owner has already received a notification for an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
It appears that he is the only one though and has provided a few screenshots showing the new version, as well as a build number of JRO03H. If you are using the 4G Xoom right now on Verizon, it will do you no harm at all in checking to see if an update is available, or press Verizon to see if this is happening or not.
Don’t forget the significance of this, if it does turn out to be true. It means that Verizon may be pushing out Jelly Bean for the Xoom, before the 4G LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus. Let us know what you think about this and if you’ve had any notifications yourself.
