It has been a while since we last had anything Gran Turismo related for you, but we’re pleased to say that we have some rather juicy comments to share with you now, from Polyphony Digital’s own – Kazunori Yamauchi.
The boss of the famous racing franchise had been speaking in a recent event in Beijing, China and dropped a few bombs about the possibility, or should we say, inevitability of Gran Turismo releasing for next-gen consoles, as well as the PS Vita handheld.
Ever since the PS Vita launched in December 2011, fans have been craving a portable Gran Turismo game in HD ever since. Although plenty of rumors and retailer leaks had suggested that a game was indeed in development, no further details on the game have since come to light.
However, Yamauchi has now stepped in and admitted that the company has toyed on the idea of bringing the franchise to the Vita. Here’s a very interesting quote from the great man during the interview:
”If we were to make it, we’d like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time.”
As you can see, it looks like Polyphony Digital has big plans to make the Vita’s Near functionality a key part of any future Gran Turismo game and he’s obviously well in tune with fans as races over 3G would be a big pulling power if they managed it.
It gets better for next-gen hopes too, as when pressed on the idea of Gran Turismo 6 coming out in the future, he had this to say:
We’re always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression.”
The key word to pick out there is ‘latest technology’ as that basically tells us that the next Gran Turismo game is definitely going to be on the Sony PS4. It really is a no-brainer anyway if you consider the fact that the PS4 is likely to drop at the end of next year, plus the development time they took on GT5.
We also think there’s a possibility that the PS Vita may even release before Gran Turismo 6 – or even better, make Gran Turismo 6: Prologue a PS Vita exclusive. How about that folks?
