The supply chain for iPhone 5 can deliver a taste of what is to come, and has predictably shown some growth for companies helping build and supply parts for the iPhone 5. Heading towards a release date each year for Apple’s phone will of course benefit those behind it, not just Apple, and this year that seems to involve both Skyworks and Qualcomm.
Following on from a clear understanding that the iPhone 5 would miss an August launch, which suppliers expecting sequential growth late in the quarter have also supported that launch window. We can also take Verizon’s CFO comments into account regarding a smartphone in the 4th quarter that will be a major launch, and we can’t think of any phone bigger than the iPhone 5 for the end of 2012? The news from both Verizon and suppliers deliver concrete evidence that the next iPhone will launch in October.

The best iPhone 5 release date in October – if we are to believe that this is the month and not any other, then what would be the best date in October to launch a new iPhone? There only seems one date that is sooner and a very respectful choice by Apple, which is the anniversary of Steve Jobs death and this would mean a launch on October 5. Considering what Jobs did for Apple over the years and the brand wouldn’t have existed without him, we cannot see how any other date would be right in the eyes of fans and good marketing for Apple.
We have already heard about Pegatron gearing up for a launch by entering into production, although we do hope the rumored iPhone 5 size change is small as reported, and not massively bigger like other devices that lose a little mobile phone credibility. If you are going to hold a phone to your ear then it should be smaller than 4.5-inches in our opinion, anything bigger would feel like a tablet and not a phone.
Do you think Apple should respect the memory of Steve Jobs by launching the iPhone 5 on the anniversary of his death? Do you also think his family would appreciate this? We personally couldn’t think of anything better, and if older rumors are true about this phone being one of the last Jobs projects, then we could even see his name added in someway to the next iPhone title.
We have heard a number of names for the 6th generation iPhone and these include keeping it simple with “New“, or “New Generation” in front, but we do like some sort of special edition for 2012 that goes along the lines of “iPhone SJ” in respect of Steve Jobs. Let us know your thoughts on these names in the comments.
