2012 iMac signaled with low stock

By Updated on

There have been some high hopes for a 2012 iMac and especially when it comes to the idea of a Retina display, but this possibility had been pretty much confirmed to be missing from any update for the iMac in 2012. Today we are hearing about low stock for the current iMac model and this lack of availability is always one of the best signs that a new product is about to come, or in case of the 2012 iMac it’s more of a specs refresh.

We found a number of blogs reporting stock problems earlier today and yesterday, although in the last few hours online retailers like Amazon and Mac Mall have started to get stock, but in low numbers from what we can tell. We’ll keep you updated over the coming days to see if these stores lose stock completely, but don’t be surprised if you see the Apple Store go down in the coming weeks with a quick update showing new products. One of these will almost certainly be a refreshed iMac and we could also see an improved Mac Mini for 2012 as well.

Most users agree they’re not ready to give up the optical drive from a desktop computer just yet, so this is one feature that needs to stay for now. Most requested upgrades are of course faster memory, USB, processor and more specifically the Ivy Bridge chipset that is pretty much confirmed as coming. This is also the one feature many buyers are waiting for before parting with money.

What specs do you want most inside a 2012 iMac, and is there a certain feature that needs to be included for you to part with money? We’d love to see a combo storage option as standard, which could include an SSD and normal hard drive, but our most wanted improvement is a Retina display, which is looking like a 2013 inclusion and not this year.

Sounds promising! However, some reports say: “iMac refresh will be in October”. I will not wait until October for a Ivy Bridge iMac.

USB3 and a display without a sheet of glass in front of it.  I’d buy they highest-end one if it had that.

USB 3, Ivy Bridge, 1TB HDD for base model of 21.5″, keep the ODD, Better GPU, and a design which looks exactly like the Cinema Display. I’d be overjoy if there’s a Retina display though.
