New Skyrim DLC and Dawnguard value

By Updated on

We are shocked to hear that some gamers feel disappointed with the first Skyrim Dawnguard DLC, and while everyone is entitled to an opinion it’s worth putting things into perspective. The amount of hours the gameplay delivers is way more than most single player games, which works out at around 10 to 30 hours of gameplay if you decide to play as the Dawnguard and then also again as the vampires.

Hearing from some people that state they completed the first Skyrim DLC in just 3 hours is another shock, one some of us find hard to believe unless they were playing on easy (not master) and never considered playing as the Dawnguard and vampires with different save files. Then you also have different types of players, which includes those that love to explore everything and enjoy the story, and also those that try and complete things as fast as possible on easy to say they done it already.

We’ve only played for a couple of hours on master and enjoyed the challengers so far, and the story has offered way more than many full priced games we’ve played. Our journey has only taken us to Dimhollow, having a choice to become a vampire from Lord Harkon, and hunting out others to join the Dawnguard in the battle against the vampires. Skyrim is pure class and while there could have been a lot more done with expanding the map within Dawnguard, you got to appreciate the value for money compared to alternative RPGs.

Do you feel the $20 price tag for Skyrim Dawnguard is well worth the money when compared to alternative games and DLC, or had you been expecting a lot more?

New Skyrim DLC this year or next? How soon the second downloadable content could come would depend on the size, and some die-hard Elder Scrolls fans want the next DLC as soon as possible, although not all fans feel this way. Some gamers want something much bigger than Dawnguard, and would like something along the lines of Shivering Isles and a lot of new places to explore.

What would you like to see with some new Skyrim DLC, and would 2012 be too soon to part with more cash? If you did purchase Dawnguard and only played as either the Dawnguard or vampires, then we suggest you get your moneys worth and create another save file for a different experience. It might be that some people got spoilt with the main Skyrim game, and as such were disappointed with Dawnguard. We’d love to hear your views on this, so hit the comments with your thoughts.

Bethesda does have a habit of saying games have more hours of gameplay than they actually do.

      hardly

O..K…. Now where did i put those spiders?

It was no shivering isles that’s for sure. Now that was an expansion pack worth every penny!.

I have had my moneys worth out of Skyrim, the game as a whole.  So I will buy any and all DLC regardless of reviews.   Mainly because I feel developers like this should be supported.  They did a magnificent job with Skyrim and I want to see more games like this overall.

More DLC this year would be great, I am not so sure about Dawnguard myself.  But at least they do it right.  The DLC adds another dimension to the overall story.  You aren’t just unlocking something that should have been part of the game from day one.  So many other games release half a game then hold back missions/weapons/maps to give you rubbish DLC at premium prices.  Don’t get me started on day one DLC…

Given I have spent 215 hours on a £40 game and I still have oodles to do, I think it’s a little harsh to moan at Bethesda. Most modern games last about 5 bl00dy hours! It is indeed a shame that it’s not Shivering Isles, but that was £20 if I recall correctly. Anyway, here’s to more awesome add-ons.

For me its not worth it. I suggest this must be around 800MS points.. what do you think

  • Austin3201

it was worth it i loved it

Well…….. I have not downloaded it yet, but I will.  I’m still thrashing around the original, with over 300 hours and just at level 40, I have MUCH left to do.  I wish there was some explanation of what happens to where you currently are when you enable the DLC, if I understood that fully I may be more inclined to load it up.  Based on current cost I have in Skyrim as a whole, this is the lowest cost per hour game I’ve ever had, and it’s totally enjoyable.  $20 for more content is very reasonable imho.  I recently chatted with a Gamestop employee that had just finished the original Skyrim, with 600 hours in it, and he said he was at level 100 with most everything and had finished all adventures.  Now that’s dedication and he obviously loved the game, he was just itching to get Dawnguard.  Me too, just not exactly sure when.

I only have PS3 and i dont see a DLC for it. i love Skyrim and i would really like to play the new update. so is Dawnguard also available for PS3? if not one should be made for it

  • PsychoSploosh69

Is there additional places to explore on the main map in Dawnguard? Or does it take you to a new place to explore like in the DLC’s on Fallout? Just curious.

  • cjack99

Well I got it figured out.  It’s painless, except for the 1600 MS points it cost (US, for Xbox360 $19.99).  I’ve never downloaded before, it took me longer to set up the payment option than it did to get the download.  It adds new content in a new map area, down around Riften, I haven’t gone yet, but now a lot of guards come up and talk about it.  Does not change the current game environment much, except now there are the odd vampires popping up, and some knarly dog things.  And of course there is the new mapped area, which I have not visited yet.  Oh yeah,,,, now I can shoot / bash from horseback, that’s worth the price just for that, it was always silly to have to jump off the horse to do battle.  PS3 and PC are coming soon, I’ve heard.
    cheers

I for one am completely disappointed with it.  If it had been 800 MS points I would have been happy with it for the price.  Im sorry but when Todd Howard said that this would be meaty and big and that they wanted it to feel like an expansion more so then an addon I was expecting something similar to shivering Isles.  That was an expansion.  This however feels like nothing more than an 800 MS point addon similar to that of fallout 3 or fallout new vegas.  It just isnt enough for the price they had asked.  And this is coming from someone that played both sides of the questline for dawnguard and am now working on a simple fetch sidequest(added in dawnguard) that has something to do with a mysterious forge hidden in skyrim with really no back story…for the money I gotta say I definetly dont feel that its worth it.  To the other people commenting that the main game of skyrim is so big and enough…this is an addon for a completely different price and transaction than the original game.  They are asking you to comment whether you think the price of dawnguard and if the amount of content seems fair not does the size of the main game make up for the lacking size of dawnguard.  Bethesda(Todd Howard) im not buying on 1st day next time.  Fool me once shame on me(big meaty expansion my ass!)….for me twice….well you know the rest.

When it does come out on ps3, i just hope i can play the dawn guard story right away as the current lv 73 argonian character i already got,  i should automatically get the werewolf perks cause my character’s already one, right?

  • Lord Die

Werewolves are better than vampires,  vampires are hated by all, while werewolves can hide in plain sight, as long as they dont take on wolf form with witnesses around.
