Each time we have an update to the PlayStation 3 software it is sure to bring out gamers that have a number of features they wished were included, and while PS3 update 4.20 does include a few more improvements than most updates, it also lacks in features that have been requested for months. The full PS3 update 4.20 firmware notes will be available when this software goes live for download tomorrow.
Here is what we know so far – the minor update will bring an improved experience for gamers, and of course better security as with most updates. After installing this update you will be able to select from 5 different levels for microphone audio, which is aimed at improving “sidetone“, although you will also have the option to turn off the feature that allows you to hear your voice when playing multiplayer games.
We love the addition of Virtual Surround for DVDs and Blu-Ray, although this feature should have been there in the first place really. You will also be able to set a timer for when the PS3 system should turn itself off, which is all about regulations for saving energy. There are also improvements for saving data although more details will be included in the full patch notes when they go live tomorrow on the PlayStation blog, which should show a number of other enhancements as well.
What do you think has been missed from the PS3 4.20 update? The massive PS3 system updates were great fun a long time ago, but it seems that the new software these days mostly includes minor improvements. For us the missing feature we expected is the ability to see our PS Vita trophies on the XMB, how about you?
