Wii U fun prioritized over hardware power

The Nintendo Wii U may not be as powerful as the next-generation PS4 or Xbox 720 consoles, but according to Nintendo – it doesn’t matter. In a recent interview, Shigeru Miyamoto has said that this wasn’t and will never be their primary focus.

Although the system will be able to play ‘hardcore’ games such as Assassin’s Creed 3, it seems as if the next console will use traits of the original Wii in not really serving as a purpose to specifically be better than rival consoles by Microsoft and Nintendo.

During his interview with IGN, the Mario creator specifically said that ‘It isn’t a power competition’. His focus on the other hand is whether a game is fun or not and this aspect takes priority ahead of any specs battle with other consoles. We’re impressed with what we have seen with the Wii U so far, but one or two of you may raise a few eyebrows at his words above.

If it is not a power competition for Wii U as Miyomoto explains, then why is Nintendo making such a furore of not revealing the exact technical specifications of the Wii U yet? It seems as if they are holding back for a particular reason, and it is perhaps a little contradictory to what Miyomoto has just said.

We know Nintendo likes to deliver fun games to consumers, but is it the right move to say that this takes preference over the power of the console? Meanwhile, even Crytek can’t resist talking about the same subject. CEO Cevat Yerli has said that the ‘Wii U is as powerful as the Xbox 360′, but didn’t mention the PS3 in his comments though.

Back to the real meat – has Nintendo shot themselves in the foot by putting fun ahead of console power? We say well done to Nintendo for not getting embroiled in these ongoing graphics debates. They’re sticking to what they are good at – that shouldn’t be a big issue should it guys?

typical journalist gibberish…missing key details. crytek said it was as powerful as 360 at the minimum!!…at thee very least. nintendo would have to physically design their own chips for them not to be better than whats in a 360. now gearbox have daid it has a better processor and more ram than the current gen.
