Absinthe 2.0.2 not working for some iOS 5.1.1 updates

By Updated on

Over the weekend, we told you that a major breakthrough had been made in the underground iOS world, with the release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 called Abinsthe 2.0 that would supply you with all the tools you need.

However, while many users have already jailbroken their iOS 5.1.1 device with no problems, we are hearing that some of you are running to a few issues during installation, with error messages popping up followed by a swift crash.

If you have been experiencing this, you’ll be glad to hear that your device isn’t in danger of being bricked and there does appear to be a workaround for those affected. Basically, if Absinthe 2.0, or the most recent version Absinthe 2.0.2 is not working, simply restore your iOS device back to official state via iTunes and then try again.

Many users have tried this process and reported that they were successful the second time around. As we mentioned above, you’ll now find that the version of Absinthe that is available to download over at the GreenPois0n website has now been boosted up to v2.0.2. According to the creators, the main difference between the original version is that the latest version should now successfully jailbreak iPhone 4 GSM devices on iOS 5.1.1 as well. Make sure your GSM handset has a build number of 9B208 first though before attempting to try this.

If you’re having problems actually getting the installer to start up, don’t forget that opening the folder with administrator access is probably a good idea first. The good news though is that most of you seem to have jailbroken your device without any problems, as a recent Tweet by the Chronic Dev Team suggests. According to them, nearly a million iOS users have successfully used Absinthe 2.0 to escape from the clutches of Apple.

Have you used Absinthe 2.0 to jailbreak your iOS device yet? If so, tell us what device you used and if you ran into any problems during the installation.

I’ve done it 4 times.  Has not worked even after full wipe and restore.  :(

I can’t even get Absinthe to recognize my iPhone, even though it shows up in My Computer and iTunes.
