Last week the world finally saw the announcement of the third-generation iPad, but as far as Sprint consumers in the US are concerned, it seems like another missed opportunity has passed as the iPad is still unavailable on the network.
AT&T and Verizon are seemingly in favor with Apple at the moment, despite the fact that Sprint consumers are now able to officially pick up the iPhone 4 and 4S on the network. The iPad remains the elusive device yet to appear though, but some recent rumors may suggest that there may be light at the end of the tunnel after all.
A recent image revealed by Engadget shows that Best Buy are already making plans for an apparent iPad release on Sprint, with not just one inventory listing but several. The source has since updated their article, stating that they have spoken with several Best Buy employees who have confirmed the existence of an iPad on Sprint.
It wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the iPad did show up on Sprint some time in the year anyway. One possible scenario why we didn’t see Apple include Sprint in their ‘new iPad’ fun and games was because Sprint’s 4G LTE network obviously isn’t ready yet. One of the standout features of the third-generation model is that it finally has support for 4G LTE networks on both AT&T and Verizon, so perhaps Apple didn’t want to make the new iPad available on Sprint with just 3G only.
Having said that, the company has made the somewhat bizarre decision to release the new iPad in Hong Kong with a WiFi option only. Mobile operators haven’t got their 4G LTE networks up and running yet, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that there isn’t even a 3G option available for the new iPad.
With that minor grunt aside, let us know your thoughts on the lack of a Sprint iPad at the moment. Do you expect to see one become available later on this year? More importantly – would you prefer a 4G LTE iPad on Sprint ahead of Verizon and AT&T?
