Away from all the talk of the iPhone 5 release one other highly anticipated new smartphone for 2012 is the next Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. The current model is still selling well and has achieved sales of over twenty million globally since its launch. There are now reports that the Galaxy S III is to feature an iPhone beating screen when it is eventually released.
At the moment not much is officially known about the Samsung Galaxy S3 or when it will be released. What is known is it won’t be making its debut at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Spain. But some of the recent speculation and rumors about the device suggests the Galaxy S III will be worth the wait for Android fans.
According to an article over at BGR the new model will feature an impressive 4.8-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display. This contradicts an earlier report that suggested the device wouldn’t have an HD screen, but you would have thought that Samsung would use such a screen on their flagship smartphone.
If true this will mean that if you like the display on the Galaxy S II, its replacement will wow you even more. It is also being claimed that when the device does relesase it will happen simultaneously across fifty markets and cities. Again it is being claimed that the handset will be the thinnest Galaxy S yet at only 7mm thick. The current model measures in at 8.49mm, and if true the size of the battery may become a concern for some.
Other Galaxy S III rumored specs we have heard so far include a quad-core processor, 4G LTE, 2GB of RAM, and of course the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. There has been a number of different release dates mentioned for the Galaxy S III, which include as early as next month.
One recent report over on Cnet is suggesting the device may not be arriving until the summer. Cell C in South Africa has said the new smartphone will be available by July of this year, while Virgin Mobile said it would release during the third quarter. This will mean anytime from July until September of 2012, and looking at previous releases it could mean a UK release in June.
Are you looking forward to see the Galaxy S III?
