We have a collection of Ice Cream Sandwich updates to give you now, both for those seeking official and unofficial versions of Google’s latest software. An official update has now been scheduled for the HTC Sensation XE smartphone, while Nexus S 4G owners will be delighted to hear that a leaked version of ICS has just become available online.
It is no secret that developers are starting to release custom builds of Ice Cream Sandwich months before we hear of any sort of official updates. The Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S are in a rare club of having official Ice Cream Sandwich updates, but countless other Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II, Droid RAZR and Rezound all have the option of installing an unofficial build if the temptation becomes too much.
Staying on the unofficial side of things, Nexus S 4G owners can now move away from Gingerbread and try their hand at a Android 4.0.4 build – the very latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich which hasn’t even become available for official ICS handsets yet. Unsurprisingly, work has been completed on the custom build via the XDA Developers, so you’ll need to head to this link here for the download as well as installation instructions. Unlike some official ICS builds, you’ll be pleased to hear that most areas of the phone are working as normal, including Sprint’s 4G WiMAX data support. As always though, approach this unofficial version with caution and attempt to install only if you know what you’re doing.
On a side note, HTC has just given Sensation XE owners some great news regarding Ice Cream Sandwich. According to the handset maker, an update to Android 4.xx will be available ‘early 2012′ if a recent Tweet is to be believed, so we could be seeing an official update land in the next few months, as reported from Phandroid.
As we’ve just seen with an early look at the HTC Ville running ICS though, this update for the Sensation XE could come loaded with HTC Sense 4.0 on top as well, which may not be a bad thing if you’re a fan of HTC’s custom interface.
