The last couple of weeks we have seen a lot of speculation about the next Samsung smartphone the Galaxy S III. It looked like the company may have teased the device at the recent CES event in Las Vegas during a promotional video, and now it seems the Galaxy S3 has appeared on Samsungs website, but the release date is still MIA.
Recently there was talk the device could release in April and feature a quad-core 1.5GHz or 1.6GHz processor, and would be debuted at next month’s Mobile World Congress. But only yesterday we brought you the news that this is likely to not be the case, and the device may not see the light of day until the summer.
Now a report over at Pocket Now has an image that shows a device with the model number GT-i9300 that has appeared on Samsung’s official website for the UAE. With regards to model numbers the original Galaxy S was using model numbers in the i90xx range, while the Galaxy S II had the i91xx prefix.
The Galaxy Nexus went with the i9250 number, and you would have normally thought the Galaxy S3 would have gone with this. So the upcoming model will probably use the i93xx model number. While Samsung were reporting their latest earnings a company executive revealed that the release of Galaxy S III is still under review, so whatever that means is anybody’s guess.
It has been revealed that the company had a $3.6 billion net profit, which was a rise of 17% from the previous year according to PC Advisor.
It saw a strong performance in both its TV range and smartphones that account for almost half of the company’s profits. The Galaxy range was cited as proving really successful as Samsung looks to create new product categories with devices such as the Galaxy Note.
The device is a cross between a tablet and a smartphone with a 5.3-inch display and a stylus, and launched last year in Europe and is due soon in the US with AT&T. Do you like the look of the Galaxy Note or are you waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S III?
