Search engine giant Google offers users a variety of different services, but now it has come under fire from some for changes it has made to its privacy rules. The company has decided to bring all of its products under one single policy.
The company currently has more than 70 privacy documents in place, and the majority of us have probably never bothered to read these. According to a report on TechRadar users with Google Accounts will notice the changes the most. Google have revealed that if you are signed in they may combine the information you provide for one service with information from others.
Google is claiming that this allows for a simpler and “more intuitive Google experience”, but some users may be a little concerned if they see their Google documents appearing in their Gmail accounts. Graham Cluley from security firm Sophos feels the changes may be more helpful for some users, and they certainly benefit Google.
He added that Google can now “consolidate” all the information it has about users from the various Google products being used. This will mean that the company will have a better idea about you and share what it knows from how users interact with the likes of Gmail and YouTube.
Cluley added that this will help Google to better target users with advertising but may annoy some. All this gathered information will integrate nicely with the Search Plus Your World feature, which has caused some trouble for Google already this month.
