As many of you will know, Apple is one of the most dominant manufacturers when it comes to the mobile device market, with their iPhone and iPad accounting for a large percentage share of it. Now the tech world giants stand on the verge of claiming the title of the world’s top tablet and PC merchant off current holders Hewlett-Packard.
The news comes after the website, Fortune held a poll which included the opinions of 42 analysts. Their analysis leads to the predictions that by the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, iPad sales could reach 14 million a huge increase on the third quarter’s 11.12 million. Apple also managed to shift 4.89 million Macs which could see the holiday sales take the total past 5 million.
With these totals combined it could see Apple push past HP as biggest PC vendor in the world as it would mean 20 million units were sold over the holiday quarter alone if the predictions are correct. It is the market share increase that would be the ultimate winner as HP currently accounts for 13% which would be overtaken by Apple’s 17.6%. It would also be a first for the Cupertino-based company.
According to reports Apple is expected to blow their quarterly total estimates away this time around when they announce them on January 24th, despite falling short of estimates last quarter and surprising a lot of experts including Wall Street at the same time. The closest Apple came to reaching this great a market share was back in 1984 when the Apple II was launched. Do you think they will reach the targets this quarter to overtake HP? Will you be surprised if they do?
