The devices known as Smart Watches are all the rage these according to some reports and are predicted to take off one day. In the meantime most people will be sticking with the smartphones and tablets that are feeding their technology desires. For those that prefer to wear their technology on their wrist we have news that Sony has introduced the SmartWatch which will be shipping later this quarter.
One of the many surprises amongst some predictable events at CES this year, Sony will be hoping the SmartWatch will have more of an impact on the market than the attempt Sony Ericsson made with their LiveView smartphone accessory which was very similar. It also bares a resemblance to the LG Watch Phone and according to Pocket-lint, the more recently announced Motorola Motoactv.
The Sony SmartWatch is designed to pair with the Xperia S, which also ships this quarter and the Arc S via Bluetooth, allowing users to check things like Twitter and Facebook notifications as well as text messages, incoming calls and emails they receive. The idea is to save smartphone users having to keep getting their devices out of their pocket to check it, ideal for situations where phones are not permitted such as at school or work.
It features a 1.3” OLED display that can be mounted to a wristband of your choice. It is powered by a specially designed version of Android and will allow for the download of apps specific to the device. Between charges you can expect a week’s worth of low usage out of it which is fairly impressive although the likelihood is it won’t last that long with average usage. Check out the official website for more details on the device.
