D-Link is one of the long-list of companies attending CES 2012 to show off some of its most exciting products set to arrive in 2012. One product which has just been announced is the Cloud Camera 5000 (DCS-5222L), this is an affordable video surveillance solution which is mydlink-enabled, meaning that it is connected to the Cloud to allow remote access to live video and features from a wide-range of devices.
The Cloud Camera 500 is pretty small in terms of size, but boasts a lot of exciting functions and features. It connects to networks via Wifi b/g/n and supports access points which allow simple connection via the WPS button, once connected the camera will be accessible via web browsers which navigate to the mydlink.com website, also there will be apps for Android and iOS – meaning that tablets and smartphones can easily see what;s going on. Not only will the website and apps allow you to see what’s going on, but you will also be able to utilize pan, tilt and zoom controls remotely.
In terms of video quality the Could Camera boasts video capture at 720p HD, H.264 video compression (when recording to a local microSD card), mic-in and audio-out ports, motion detection and night vision (with IR LEDs). Below you can see that the camera looks like a cross between a Dalek and R2D2.
Apparently the Cloud Camera 5000 will arrive in April, but a price is unknown, there are plenty of solutions out there which offer similar functionality to this camera, but configuration to get such features working can be hard work in comparison and you don’t have the luxury of dedicated applications for your tablets and smartphones. If you head over to Engadget you can find out more about this camera and the Enhanced Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera (DCS-942L), for more CES 2012 news check out this link.
