It has been a long time coming but we’re pleased to say that Bethesda has finally given some solid details on when PC gamers can expect the highly anticipated Creation Kit mod tools to release for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Prior to this, talk of the creation kit had been very muted since Bethesda had probably opted to focus on sorting out all the various issues with the core game first before shifting their attention to please the mod community.
Now though, Bethesda has issued a new statement over on their official blog, confirming that the Creation Kit will be available to download sometime in January. For those of you that are unaware, the Creation Kit will give developers an expanded set of tools to create custom content for the PC version of Skyrim – those of who played the PC version of Oblivion will know just how useful the Creation Kit can be.
As we told you a few weeks ago, hundreds of mods are already available to download for Skyrim now, but the release of the Creation Kit will make content a lot more detailed, since the Creation Kit tools are meant to be just as useful as the same tools that Bethesda used to create the game. There’s no set date for the Creation Kit yet, but we have a feeling that most of you will just be pleased that it is coming next month – let’s see how long it takes for someone to completely overhaul the PC user interface as many of you will probably agree that it is one area that badly needs attention.
Aside from the Creation Kit, Bethesda has also confirmed that the PC version will include support for the Steam Workshop, making it much easier for gamers to obtain mods. Of course you may prefer to pick up your tools from places like SkyrimNexus, but having mod downloads constantly available in a huge marketplace such as Steam may be more preferable for you.
So there we have it – what are your thoughts on this PC gamers? What kind of mods are you hoping / expecting to see once the creation kit becomes available? You can read some great mod ideas here.
