After informing you about the evident confusion surrounding the US release date for the highly anticipated ASUS Transformer Prime tablet / notebook device, it looks like we finally have an official date to share with you after an apparent confirmation from ASUS.
Earlier on, we told you how retailers such as GameStop and Newegg were contradicting each other by dishing out varied release dates for the Transformer Prime. GameStop had offered dates of December 19th and December 9th for the device (yes two different dates for two different models don’t ask us why), while NewEgg were telling customers who had pre-ordered their Prime that stock would reach customers on December 8th.
Now though, according to a report by NetbookNews, an ASUS spokesperson has revealed that the ASUS Transformer Prime will be shipping on December 8th, that’s a Thursday just for reference and interestingly the very same date in which the Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Droid 4 smartphones are due to launch as well. Providing this information is accurate, it bodes well for a very exciting day for tech fans, and of course an expensive one if some of you are planning to pick up one of those two phones as well as the ASUS Transformer Prime.
As a further reminder, the 32GB model of the Transformer Prime will cost you $499, while the larger 64GB model will set you back $599. Be aware though that this is just the price for the tablet side of the device – if you want to connect the Prime up to the official dock and make it a fully fledged notebook with improved battery life and connectivity options, then you’ll have to pay an additional $149 on top of your desired storage option.
So there we have it, we should be seeing the mighty Transformer Prime land on US shores from December 8th. Are any of you planning to splash the cash and pick up a Galaxy Nexus too, or is one Ice Cream Sandwich device enough for you at the moment. Hopefully we won’t have to inform you of another date change, but we’ll keep you updated. Don’t forget to check out a useful video preview here if you missed it last time.
