Just when you thought Verizon couldn’t possibly cram any more smartphones into their Holiday lineup this year, we have some news which will be met with considerable surprise. The Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound are already out on Verizon of course, but we’re now hearing that the Galaxy Nexus could be joined with another notable smartphone release on the exact same day.
That phone we’re talking about is the elusive Motorola Droid 4, which appears to have come out of nowhere after all the hype and speculation on the US Galaxy Nexus release. The latest news, is that the Droid 4 could be releasing on December 8th, the very same day that Verizon are rumored to be dropping the Galaxy Nexus in the US.
Slide-out keyboard smartphones are still very popular with consumers, so we have a feeling that many of you are now going to be having second thoughts on whether or not to pick up the Galaxy Nexus as your next phone. Droid-Life has acquired a collection of known specs for the Droid 4 so far, courtesy of their sources inside Verizon.
There’s no word on what processor will be powering the Droid 4, but it will include a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-row QWERTY keyboard which is illuminated, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, 4G LTE connectivity and Android 2.3.5. That makes the Droid 4 the first 4G LTE slider on Verizon’s books and we’re guessing that the device will definitely be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as well.
For the more business orientated user, the Droid 4 may well be the more attractive offer compared to the dazzling Galaxy Nexus, so it will be interesting to see what consumers opt for when Verizon finally announce official details for both. If you had to choose between the Droid 4 and Galaxy Nexus on December 8th, what would you choose and why? We’ll inform you when we find out more details.
