iOS 5.0.2: Possible release date delay due to memory leak problems

By Updated on

Apple has only just released iOS 5.0.1 to consumers, but we’re already hearing information about Apple’s forthcoming iOS 5.0.2 update. According to the latest reports though, it may be delayed from its initial release, due a problem related to memory leakage.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Apple yet, but it is being widely reported at the moment, with the origin of the source coming from German website Macerkopf, as reported from CNET. This is the same site that first dropped details on Apple’s next ‘major’ iOS update, iOS 5.1 which apparently will bring new functionality to Siri.

As for the delay though, the website claims that Apple are having problems with memory leaks within the code of iOS 5.0.2 and will now not be released to public at the end of this week, as previous rumors suggest. For those of you who are not familiar with the term memory leak, it is the issue where an app continues to consume memory from your iOS device, even when the user has closed the app down.

This could be the latest in a series of iOS 5-related issues for Apple. Consumers have complained for weeks about poor battery life on the new iPhone 4S, while just recently there have also been reports about loss of WiFi signal on iOS 5 as well.

Apple has yet to come out and officially confirm or deny the claims, but they have acknowledged the battery life issues at least, since the patch notes in iOS 5.0.1 specifically noted battery life improvement as a fix. The official Apple support boards are continuing to experience high volumes of traffic as frustrated consumers state their woes, so hopefully Apple will sort out the problems for good with their next update to iOS 5.0.2.

If you are still having any problems on iOS 5 related to the issues mentioned above, let us know your thoughts on this potential delay for iOS 5.0.2. We’ll let you know once we hear of an official release.

How can software that has never been announced be delayed?  Furthermore, iOS 5.0.2 can’t be released publicly until it has been released to developers as a BETA.  You people writing this nonsense should know that so why do you bother with this obvious German rumor garbage?

Let us downgrade apple to 4.3.5 at least while we waiting…This Nazi attitude would help the Apple Brand

I just threw my iPhone 4s to the garbage, no difference….

will iOS 5.0.2 stop the laggyness? like when i turn my iPod on its side for cover flow mode, it takes about 12 seconds to turn, and more than half the time the album art takes seconds to load. that is just one of many lag related issues with iOS  5.0.1 . will apple be doing anything about this to make it more efficient and less flawed? iOS 4.3.3 and every other 4. something had no problems, but iOS 5 does.
