Skyrim without textures: PC Mod download needed for Team Fortress effect

By Posted 22 Nov 2011, 03:20

The joys of owning the PC version of Skyrim never stop, and this is a perfect example of what crazy things can be done with the game. Someone has enabled the game to run without any textures, and the result is an awesome-looking Team Fortress style effect which should be made as a mod download asap.

For those who haven’t played Team Fortress, it features unique animated visuals and remains one of the most popular online games on Steam. Now imagine our surprise when we saw the following video below which shows instant similarities with Valve’s game and perhaps even some hints of Runescape, or The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker as well if you want to go further.

As far as we’re aware, any body can do this on the PC version right now by tweaking their video settings enough. Given the immediate popularity of the video though, there are numerous calls for this to be made as a PC mod to make life easier for PC gamers so they don’t have to tweak the settings themselves. We particularly love the accompanying music in the video, as well as the part where the user puts a bucket over the bartenders head – great stuff.

Judging by the feedback seen so far, it looks like many of you are actually surprised that such an effect doesn’t look too bad, considering what a beautiful world Skyrim is with normal settings – this animated look is a stark contrast and it’s a new take on Skyrim which some PC gamers may want to enjoy on a separate save file for example just for fun.

We have a feeling that it won’t be long until somebody goes ahead and packages this into a downloadable mod. When that happens, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, check out the crazy video below and give us your thoughts on it. Do you want to try this out as well, or are you not feeling it? Mods are so awesome, it’s free, imaginative and it has a better support than the game itself. Thank god for the mode community

The modding community is the reason why I dont worry about games having problems on release for the PC.  Especially anything by Bethesda.

Give it a few days and problems will be fixed.

Happened with RAGE (graphics), Dead Island (graphics) and now Skyrim as recent examples.
