If for some reason you are looking for an alternative smartphone on Verizon aside from the Galaxy Nexus, the Droid RAZR or the HTC Rezound, then feast your eyes on this surprise offering. In a few days time, Big Red and HTC are going to be giving a ‘big red’ makeover to the Droid Incredible 2.
Full apologies for the terrible pun, but we couldn’t resist on this occasion. Pictures of the red model are now showing up online and it certainly gives the current Incredible 2 outcast a new lease of life with a new coat of paint.
Unfortunately, that new coat of paint is all you’ll be getting though, as there doesn’t look to be any other changes to the device. This means that you’ll essentially get the same handset and no extra hardware goodies. If HTC spent just a little more time with this new red version and fitted it with two essential features such as a dual-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity, then we have a feeling that Verizon may have had a surprise best seller on their hands during the imminent holiday sales extravaganza.
Instead though, consumers will have to deal with outdated specs which include a 1Ghz Qualcomm processor, 768MB of RAM, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a S-LCD display screen. When you think of today’s standard in which consumers expect a 1.2GHz dual-core, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.0 at a bare minimum, the Droid Incredible 2 is incredibly second-rate it has to be said.
With those formalities aside, we’re hearing that this handset will be available to buy this Friday from Verizon, at no extra cost when taking out a new contract with the carrier. You can have a good look at the new red model below, courtesy of an image obtained by Droid-Life.
What are your thoughts on the new color – it doesn’t look terrible at all does it? Do you agree that it is majorly disappointing that HTC didn’t bother to upgrade this model with 4G LTE and a dual-core chip?
