When it comes to smartphones the Android run handsets seem to be the more popular choice with the Google OS devices having the dominant share of the market. However being the most popular is not necessarily being the best and a recent study has proved that, it is a list of the 12 smartphones most susceptible to malware and they are all Android run devices.
Many of the world’s best mobile phone manufacturers opt for the Android OS to run their handsets, with manufacturers like RIM and Apple having their own operating systems. Nokia are also one of few exceptions as they have chosen Windows Phone OS to reignite their attempt on making an impact on the smartphone market.
The enterprise-oriented security vendor Bit9 is behind the study, which resulted in them ranking the list of the 12 most vulnerable smartphones, which they called the ‘Dirty Dozen.’ What’s most shocking about this list is it is made up entirely of Android smartphones. According to PC Mag Apple’s iOS is less fragmented and their iPhones are constantly getting updated which they have full control over. The same happens with BlackBerry smartphones, but Android smartphone updates are controlled by the owner and some do not update regularly enough.
In some cases not every Android smartphone has an update available which means it could be stuck on the same version OS for years making it more susceptible to malware. Another recent study also found that 30% of iPhone users do not update their devices at the time it is released which could lead to them missing out on time-sensitive bug fixes. Check out if your Android smartphone was one of the 12 which made it onto the list. Do you own a smartphone that has been affected by malware that isn’t on the list?
