ASUS U32U specs & price – Fusion APU & DOS variant

We have just found out details regarding the new ASUS U32U laptops. Today we will introduce you to the U32U-RX011R and the U32U-RX011R variants, in terms of hardware these two models are identical, but in terms of software they differ.

The ‘R’ model ships with Windows 7 Home Basic, whilst the ‘D’ variant ships with DOS – meaning you can get slightly cheaper and then choose what operating system to install on it, perhaps a Linux distro like Ubuntu would be a good choice.

In terms of performance hardware both models feature and AMD Fusion APU (dual-core E-450 1.65GHz), AMD Radeon HD 6320 graphics, 2GB DDR 3 1066MHz RAM and a 320GB SATA HDD. They also feature a 13.3-inch LED backlit display which outputs at 1366 x 768, a webcam, HDMI-out, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB 2.0 port and an 8cell 5600mAh Li-Ion battery which is said to allow for up to 12 hours of life from a single charge.

The variant which runs Windows 7 Home Basic will cost you $509, whilst the DOS variant will cost $449 – to be honest with you an extra $60 for a genuine Windows license isn’t too bad, but it is nice to have the option of a cheaper laptop which you can install a open-source operating system on. No-matter which option you choose ASUS will give you a 2-year global warranty with the U32U, we are told that there will be some upgrade options available, however we don’t yet have more detailed pricing information or a release date.

We really think the hardware offered for such a low price is impressive, especially considering the impressive battery life claims – will you be buying the U32U?
