We have some interesting news for those of you who are currently running iOS 5 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch now, as it has been revealed that Apple has hidden one feature inside the code for their camera app, and it relates to a new panorama mode that may be releasing at some point in the future.
Since this feature isn’t available to the public yet, it is obvious that it is still very much in development at Apple HQ. However, that hasn’t stopped iPhone hackers from getting their hands on the feature, courtesy of a jailbroken handset and the user known as ConraDev who has been credited with the discovery.
Chpwn, another hacker who is more well known to the community has posted some screenshots showing the panaroma mode in action, and you can see the collection of screenshots in one merged image here, thanks to 9To5Mac. You’ll be pleased to know that their report also offers a guide on how to get Panorama mode active on your device if you decide that you want to try it out.
To do this, you won’t need a jailbroken iPhone either, but you will need to download an App from the App store and fiddle around with some files in iTunes. The obvious question now, is when are Apple planning to make this feature fully functional? Is it a feature intended for the next major release of iOS, or is a canned feature that was never intended for public viewing in the first place?
Considering that this mode isn’t finished yet, we don’t recommend you heading out and trying this as there doesn’t seem to be too much in the way of reward for doing so. Having said that, the method above which doesn’t require jailbreaking will not void your warranty with Apple so it may be a cool thing to check out if you want to pass the time.
Do you have this hidden panorama mode on your iPhone yet?
