People have barely had time to place Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 into their disc tray, however we have just heard confirmation that the next Call of Duty game is already being developed and scheduled for release in 2012.
As you can imagine no useful details were disclosed, but is does give us an opportunity to begin speculating about Call of Duty 9 and ask you questions about what you want to see next year. Let’s start with something pretty obvious, its release date, previously MW2, Black Ops and MW3 all arrived on the second Tuesday of November, so based on this we assume that it will arrive on November 13, 2012 – however things may differ as 2012 is a leap year.
We can almost guarantee that CoD 9 will be being developed by Treyarch, since the days of CoD 4 and CoD 5 Treyarch has alternated annually with the Call of Duty series, so now that Infinity Ward (and Sledgehammer Games) have released MW3 it is Treyarch’s turn. Additionally we are told that Raven Software may have some involvement with the next CoD, following the team’s work with Black Ops.
So what can we expect from the next game? Well, there are three main options really, they could create World at War 2, or Black Ops 2 – or they could mix things up completely and create a new game with a new name. Back in August the name “Iron Wolf” emerged, however sources suggest that this is just a codename.
Personally I would love to see a World at War 2 release, in terms of multiplayer gameplay I think WaW was far superior to Black Ops, but not everyone will agree with this and I do agree that there were lots of great things about BLOPS. I just think too many people take exception to using old fashioned guns etc and instead want modern-day / futuristic weaponry. If Activision agree with this we will no doubt see Black Ops 2 in 2012 or a completely new game as Activision want record breaking sales with every release – we also think that no-matter what we will see zombies!
Please take the time to answer the poll question below and leave a comment, it will help us gain very useful feedback regarding the next CoD game – thanks.
