A few days ago we told you about an Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare being leaked online for illegal downloading. The game is just a few hours away from launching and earlier today we gave you the best prices for the game in the UK. Now we can tell you that MW3 also leaks early in a UK retailer, but it’s not cheap though.
According to an article over at The Guardian the copies of the game were available 48 hours before the official launch. A branch of the Computer eXchange in London has been selling wrapped copies of the game on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for £60. The game is clearly seen in the window of the store, so they weren’t trying to be discrete.
When an employee was tackled about the availability of the game before the worldwide embargo by Activision is lifted, the reply was its “already on sale in Europe“. This obviously is not true and the retailer is believed to have got hold of copies from a European distributor.
The retailer refused to respond to questions from The Guardian that was put to them about where the copies of MW3 had come from. The games industry often wants control of when titles go on sale to achieve maximum impact at launch. Trouble is getting millions of copies of the game to stores across Europe without any of them being sold early can be tough.
It is also hard to put a stop to every early release, and back in 2007 Argos got in trouble for selling Modern Warfare 2 before it was supposed to. Online retailers can often dispatch preordered titles as soon as they receive them before the official release date. We already told you that US retailer K-Mart had already sold copies of the game early.
Would you pay £60 to get hold of MW3?
