If you are currently mulling over what Android handset to pick up in the fear of your current handset not getting an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, we have some useful information for you now in the way of a update list and device roundup.
We have previously told you about certain handsets that will definitely be getting an update to Ice Cream Sandwich next year, but now we have a much more clearer and compact list to share with you, courtesy of the guys over at Engadget.
They have listed a set of known devices so far which have definitely been confirmed to be getting an update, which should reassure you if you were previously thinking of picking up the Galaxy Nexus just for ICS alone.
Is is the list of devices so far to get Android 4.0, which will serve as a great reference whenever you need it
Eee Pad Transformer
Optimus 2X! (Contrary to previous rumors that it wouldn’t)
Sony (formally Sony Ericsson)
2011 Xperia lineup
So there we have it. Don’t forget that the Google Nexus One won’t be getting an update to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 unfortunately, just in case you were wondering why it had been left off the list. As soon as there are more devices confirmed for Android 4.0, we shall update this list accordingly. Hopefully Motorola’s Droid X will be getting an update too, but considering they didn’t say anything at the time when confirming Android 4.0 for the Droid Bionic, this looks unlikely.
Optimus 2X are probably the happiest owners, after LG’s u-turn after originally stating on Facebook that the handset wouldn’t be getting the update – any guesses as to what’s happened to that employee who posted that info? Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S II owners will be sitting patiently and waiting (expecting) to see if their handset will join the newer Skyrocket version in getting ICS – we think it will definitely happen, imagine the uproar if it doesn’t – especially considering Samsung’s infamous reputation for software updates.
Is your device on the list here or has it been left off? Let us know your thoughts on the Ice Cream Sandwich update bandwagon.
UPDATE: We forgot to mention this little beauty which seemingly confirms that the Samsung Galaxy S II will also be getting Ice Cream Sandwich as well, sorry about that.
